Des webcams de privés au Parc Saint-Jacques de Bâle - Le Matin Dimanche

On December 1, 2013, the Swiss weekly Le Matin Dimanche published an investigation titled “Des webcams de privés au Parc Saint-Jacques de Bâle, de nombreuses installations suisses connectées à Internet sont vulnérables” (From private webcams to Basel’s Saint-Jacques Park, numerous Swiss installations connected to the Internet are vulnerable). The article documents the first systematic test on the security of industrial infrastructures (SCADA/ICS) in Switzerland, carried out by the Italian company ISGroup. Francesco Ongaro, cited as one of the team’s main experts, denounced the absence of protection measures in industrial systems exposed online, stating: “En connectant leurs systèmes à Internet, ces gens facilitent grandement le travail aux personnes malintentionnées” (By connecting their systems to the Internet, these people greatly facilitate the work of malicious individuals). The investigation had great media resonance for revealing critical vulnerabilities in strategic facilities such as stadiums, power plants, and cantonal archives.
